Pinterest is expanding its ad targeting efforts by increasing its interest pool from 400 to 5,000 different interests, and they are launching this expansion under the name of “Taste Graph.” By definition, “Taste Graph” is Pinterest’s technology that figures out what users like, but also how what they like changes over time, allowing the targeting efforts to customize over time as a user’s interests change.
The purpose of this expansion in interests is to give advertisers more topics to choose from, which hopefully delivers better-performing ads. It also shows Pinterest’s continued efforts to get advertisers in front of users at key times in their lives, or when they are looking to make specific purchases.
