Malachite is the latest of the gemstone family to grace social media feeds. Deemed the “Botox of Crystals” in November by bi-coastal fashion stylist turned shaman Colleen McCann, this green copper carbon hydroxide mineral is making cosmic waves in the beauty and fashion industries.
Well And Good reports that malachite’s uses include strengthening skin’s natural defenses, acting as a sun-exposure-recovery ingredient, being antioxidant-rich, and fighting free radicals. The vibrant verdurous crystal’s copper content supposedly sparks collagen production, which improves skin elasticity and combats wrinkles, hence the botox nickname. These (debatable) effects are why the stone is being infused into Tracie Martyn’s and Sisley Paris’ luxe skincare formulas. For those not too keen on the idea of malachite-infused face creams, the green gemstone does make for beautiful jewelry. Bonus: when worn, malachite allegedly aids in protection against negative entities, amplifies creativity, and enhances the development of intuition.
With the public’s undying devotion to crystal charm, what go-getter cosmetic and fashion lines aren’t going to capitalize on the obsession?
BeautyMatter wonders what gemstone trend will reveal itself in 2018.
