As brands and marketers shift more and more money on community building and social media, could a dramatic shift be afoot? Tech futurist Michael Spencer predicts 2018 will be the end of social media as we know it, and this is why:
- Teens are aware of behavioral patterns related to mobile and app that border on addiction.
- Trust in social media has been lost. The era of trusting news on social media is over, given the number of election-based controversies.
- Enthusiasm for next waves of technology is shifting from California to China. Chinese apps have yet to come into their own.
- An exodus from social media continues in North America and Europe. Millennials are “over” the pointless digital consumption and GenZ is moving to video-first platforms.
The losers: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
The winners: YouTube and Snapchat.
