Broadly has worked diligently to be thoughtful and critical about the representation of trans and non-binary people but realized the limitations of stock imagery available, so they solved the problem. The Gender Spectrum Collection is a stock photo library featuring trans and non-binary models created to help the media better represent these communities with a new, free resource.

A representative from Shutterstock told Broadly they saw a 64% increase in searches for “transgender” in February as compared to the same time last year. Image searches for “gender fluid” on Getty Images tripled between June 2017 and June 2018, yet the three most downloaded photos of transgender people in the library at that time were all of a hand with a transgender pride symbol, without an identifiable face or body in the background.

The Gender Spectrum Collection is a library of over 180 images of 15 trans and non-binary models all shot by artist and photographer Zackary Drucker, and is available to the public for free.
