The Makeup Show has become a resource for professional makeup artists for community, education, and introduction to new products and trends. It is a way for the beauty industry to gather together and talk new techniques, new technologies, and seasonal trends that meet the demands of the professional working artist.
Shelly Taggar, The Makeup Show’s owner, and James Vincent, celebrity makeup artist and Director of Education and Artist Relations of The Makeup Show, both scoured The Makeup Show Chicago floor to see what was new amongst the 70 brands exhibiting. From a mist-protecting hair shield to innovative eyelash applicators, they spotlighted 6 innovative indie brands to keep your eye on. Each of these brands have worked their way into the hearts of the pros, and will next make their way into beauty buff arsenals across the globe.
“Trends are changing each season and we see these first-hand at our shows. It’s amazing to see the indie brands relate to them, and come up with ways to develop and work within the trend, bringing to marketing things the community needs,” said Taggar. “I look for product that is innovative and durable. Product that works for both the pro community and the consumer. Many of these brands are also owned by makeup artists and developed for makeup ‘artists.
James Vincent said, “This year our focus was indie beauty brands. I am committed to decolonizing the beauty industry and seeing product developed by artists and experts that are truly global in their experience and scope. We are putting a spotlight on female-owned brands, queer-owned brands, brands owned by artists of color, and brands that are leading the way in green and clean beauty. Bringing in young new brands with fresh ideas and diverse life experiences allows us to be global and inclusive in the way we approach trend and talk about product.”
