The Good Glamm Group’s portfolio company BabyChakra makes its first acquisition, buying regional Indian parenting network Tinystep.

WHO: Founded in 2015 by Suhail Abidi, the Bengaluru-based healthcare and parenting network Tinystep has provided information and advice across a wide network of parents in nine different languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bangla, Tamil, Kannada, Gujarati, Malayalam, Telugu, and Punjabi.

BabyChakra is an online platform for pregnancy and childcare that lets users connect with other parents and experts and buy relevant services and products. BabyChakra claims to have a community of over 39 million moms, 10,000 doctors, and more than seven million pieces of user-generated content. The platform also launched a range of baby care products across categories.

WHY: With this acquisition, BabyChakra has expanded its regional footprint, expanding its network of parents across nine languages and getting it closer to its target of reaching 75 million moms by the end of 2022.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS: "The regional reach of Tinystep's digital & social assets will help BabyChakra reach out to newer user bases with deeper, more personalized care," said Naiyya Saggi, co-founder, Good Glamm Group and founder and CEO, BabyChakra. "This is a collaboration that will accelerate our vision of being a trusted care partner to every mom and child in India."

"We started Tinystep with the vision of leveraging community and content to drive commerce," said Suhail Abidi, founder, Tinystep. "BabyChakra is the perfect place to take this vision forward, helping Tinystep increase its reach and impact, and I am happy that Tinystep has found a great new home."

DETAILS:

  • In the Tinystep deal, BabyChakra has acquired a base of 40,000 multilingual content assets and about five million social followers across nine different languages.
  • Following the deal, Tinystep will merge its social assets and content with BabyChakra's existing platform, which will represent the largest ecosystem of moms in India.
  • The business earmarked Rs 100 crore to further build the content-to-commerce platform over the next three years.
  • Tinystep founder Suhail Abidi will be exiting the business to start a new venture.
