Japan’s biggest online fashion retailer Zozo Inc. expands beyond apparel with an assortment of over 500 curated Japanese and international beauty brands, along with its proprietary measurement technology. Powered by Zozoglass, a skin-tone capturing device, ZozoCosme will introduce an entirely new way of shopping for cosmetics online.
The beauty tech device captures customers’ skin tone from the comfort of home, removing the traditional hurdles for buying color cosmetics online. At launch, Zozoglass will match customers to foundation shades that are the closest to their own natural skin tone, assisting customers to find the best foundation match. A number of foundation products available on ZozoCosme will be supported by the shade-matching algorithm.
“Traditionally in Japan you’d go to a large department store, you go to the counter and then you actually try stuff on,” Zozo’s Chief Operating Officer Masahiro Ito said in a statement. “We’re trying to replicate that through technology and give the consumer confidence to buy online,” he said.
ZozoCosme and Zozoglass will be officially released on Thursday, March 18, 2021. Zozoglass will be available for free (shipping included). Pre-orders are currently being taken.
Zozo is part of SoftBank’s internet business Z Holdings Corp.
