2021 WEEK 19: NEW LAUNCHES TO NOTE

This week saw the the launch of the much-anticipated Zara color brand as well as a slew of new category and product launches across categories and forms. A focus on self-care and body care remain at the forefront of new launches.

Zara: Fashion retailer Zara is getting in the beauty business with an inclusive color cosmetics line created in collaboration with British makeup artist Diane Kendal. The Fabien Baron-designed refillable packaging defies its affordable pricing. The Zara Beauty collection will be launched simultaneously online and in select stores on May 12. The selected 22 stores will feature dedicated beauty spaces designed to reproduce natural lighting while the digital experience includes virtual try-on technology. The 130-SKU range across lipstick, eyeshadow, blush, and nail polish is priced $8 to $26 USD, with refills starting at $5.

“Our goal was to create something truly inclusive in which many can participate—innovative products with a playful, personal and individualistic character, all made with the high-performance ingredients and true colour innovation,” Zara Head of Beauty Eva Lopez-Lopez said. “Those were mutual ambitions that we shared with Diane, so she is the perfect person for us to work with.”

FaTH: FaTH Founder Faith Appleton believes soil health is a means for plant potency and the new frontier in plant-based skincare, supporting quality ingredients and sustainability. The soil-to-serum skincare range is cultivated at Apple Street Farm, a family farmstead based in Essex, Massachusetts, that dates back to 1634. The historic farm serves as a field laboratory for heirloom seeds and old vine grafts, grown in proprietary soil and cultivated for potency and purity with the earth’s natural rhythms. The six-product range is priced from $76 to $180.

CATEGORY LAUNCH

Pacifica: Building off the success of its Vegan Collagen skincare line, the brand is launching a line of Vegan Collagen Cosmetics. The collection will kick off with the first-ever Vegan Collagen Fluffy Lash Mascara and Vegan Collagen Lash Serum + Primer on the market, packaged in a pastel glass vial that can be recycled curbside. The products are both $16 and available at Ulta.

by/rosie jane: The clean fragrance pioneer has expanded into personal care with a new range of Every Day Body Wash in two new scents—Wake The Fck Up and Calm The Fck Down—as well as signature Leila Lou and James fragrances. The brand has seen 100% growth in 2020 over the previous year and has already seen a 200% growth so far in 2021 across their e-commerce platforms, including Sephora. Consistent with all by/rosie jane products, the body wash is free of parabens, phthalates, BHTs, and PCMs, does not contain any hormone disruptors, and is sustainably packaged in glass that can be sent back and refilled for free swag as per their Give Back Program. Available at Sephora and priced at $25.

Vena CBD: The leading wellness and lifestyle CBD brand expanded into skincare with HY CBD. The collection offers clean, scientifically formulated products that deliver intense hydration through a combination of natural ingredients that include adaptogens, botanicals, and CBD. The range consists of a serum, moisturizer, and mask priced from $48 to $56.

Vita Coco: Seeing the continuing growth in the consumer need for natural across the personal care spectrum, the company has expanded into haircare. The Nourish, Repair, and Scalp range is designed to help dry and damaged hair and contain 95% natural ingredients. The coconuts are sourced from small farms and the packaging contains 75% post-consumer waste HDPE.

PREMIUM PRODUCT LAUNCHES

RMS: The brand launched a peptide-powered clean mascara that delivers 12 hours of volume while re-densifying lashes for all-day wear. Beauty Straight Up Volumizing Peptide Mascara contains a powerful mix of living ingredients for thick, full, long lashes without any clumping or smudging. Priced at $26.

HoliFrog: Grand Amino Cushion Cream, described by the brand as skincare minimalism for the skincare fanatic, is a concentrated formula of peptides, ceramides, vitamins, and a blend of 11 amino acids. The creamy, adaptable texture is beneficial for all skin situations and types—lightweight enough for oily skin types but able to be layered for buildable hydration. Available at Dermstore, Net-A-Porter, and Revolve and priced at $60.

Kosas: In our current low-touch world, Kosas launched a range of ten sample cards on its website for Tinted Face Oil Foundation, The Sun Show Bronzer, The Big Clean Mascara mini (not housed in a card format), and Lipfuel Lip Balm. Shoppers purchase samples for $3-5 and get site credit to redeem on future purchases.

Kopari: The clean skincare brand is focusing on the neck down with a body launch that embraces body positivity. The Pink Soufflé Body Mask is a body wellness superhero that combines Niacinamide and Dragonfruit to address a slew of concerns. Priced at $39 and available on the brand’s website.

AbsoluteJOI: Available in two inclusive shades, Mocha and Café Au Lait, the brand’s new Daily Moisturizing Cream contains a mineral sunscreen of SPF 40, which exceeds the daily SPF recommendation and protects the skin from 98% of UV radiation, reduces pollution-induced free radicals, and blocks up to 59% of HEV (blue) light. The product is priced at $42.

Superegg: The latest product launch from the vegan skincare line is Calm Movements Eye and Cheek Mask is formulated using Superegg’s signature White Duplex technology (Egg White Duplicated Complex), a powerful formulation engineered to duplicate vital egg-white nutrients with 16 high-grade vegan ingredients. The de-puffing mask is crafted using hydrogel to cool, soothe, and boost skin’s elasticity and its unique compact shape is designed with sufficient coverage of both the eye and cheek areas.

Manscaped: The go-to for men’s grooming below the waist launched new tools and formulations. The fourth generation The Lawn Mower 4.0 ($99) focuses on intelligent functionality, maintaining the capabilities of its predecessor while boasting a slew of state-of-the-art upgrades. The Ultra Smooth Package includes a specialized groin shaving system ($39.99).

Olive & June: The brand just dropped its Summer Collection with a bold, bright nearly neon collection and limited-edition customizable letter sticker sets: The Summer Box ($90), The Summer Set ($64), Each ($8), Mini Nail Art Stickers ($7.50).
