Beekman 1802 has opened a retail location in the new state-of-the-art $4 billion Delta Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport. Branded the Kindness Shop, it’s the first stand-alone store for Beekman since their first store opened in 2010 in Sharon Springs, NY, shortly after co-founders Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge launched the brand.
As a New York–based brand, Beekman 1802 prides itself on always supporting the local and regional economy across New York, which made the decision to open the second location an easy one. Jill Scalamandre, CEO of Beekman, told WWD, "When you think about the 39 million eyeballs that walk in and out of that terminal every year, there's no better way to grow awareness and bring kindness to the world."
The terminal will be a renewed gateway to everything New York State has to offer. Sculptures, ceramic murals, and other works by New York–based artists, including permanent large-scale installations, greet travelers and share the city's history.
Inspired by the beauty of Kindness, the 600-square-foot Beekman space was deliberately designed by Chris Skinner and the School House Agency to pay homage to the brand's upstate roots. Artisanal and thoughtful elements are featured, such as architectural touches of Beekman 1802's signature gingham, statues of their world-famous mascot Goatie, counters that mimic splashes of milk, authentic milking stools, and a soap feature wall.
Customers traveling through the terminal can stop by the store to experience the science behind goat milk—a centuries-old natural remedy that led to the creation of the brand’s award-winning microbiome-friendly products—and learn why the brand stands behind their "Beauty in Kindness" philosophy.
Christopher Skinner, founder and CEO, School House and School House Studios, said of the design, "It was especially inspiring to bring Beekman 1802's philosophy of Kindness to life as it's such a central part of their mission. From the use of radiating yellow, to the installation of repeated Goaties, we always aim to translate the brand DNA into repeatable codes that build salience and create emotion in an architectural space."
The store provides an opportunity to educate consumers on the brand's mission of kindness and eco-friendly skincare as well as the benefits of goat milk as a natural remedy for sensitive skin. The full product range will be available as well as pre-wrapped gifts for travelers to grab on the go.
Beekman 1802 will be joining other popular and high-end retailers at the terminal, including M.A.C., Le Labo, Briggs & Riley, and Patricia Nash, who all have designated space within the open-concept retail design.
