Dae Haircare secured $2.6 million in its first capital raise from Willow Growth Partners.

WHO: Founded by Amber Fillerup Clark, an influencer with 1.3 million Instagram followers, Dae Haircare is a digital-first vegan and cruelty-free brand offering haircare products. The Arizona desert inspires the straightforward offering of simple and effective products, from the orange blossom fragrance to the color palette of the packaging.

WHY: The capital will be used to expand the team, and build out inventory, sampling, and marketing.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS: "We were in a position where we could have kept going on our own," Clark said, but she was open to "investors we really loved."

"So many investors were just pushing performance marketing and Facebook ads so hard, but to me it's super important to go about it in a more genuine way and put more effort into deepening relationships with customers," she said. The capital should also help the brand manage inventory and avoid out-of-stock moments, she noted.

DETAILS:

  • Dae raised the capital from Willow Growth, a venture firm that recently closed an oversubscribed $28 million fund.
  • Dae inked its first retail partnership with Sephora online and in 86 doors in March 2020.
  • The business is on track to grow 300 percent for 2021.
