Pura was founded on a simple but revolutionary idea: that fragrance should be an intentional part of how we design and experience our spaces. What began with two founders, one with a lifelong passion for scent and the other with expertise in manufacturing and technology, became the first smart home fragrance platform. By combining fine fragrance, thoughtful design, and smart technology, Pura empowers people to customize the way they experience scent in their homes, cars, and daily environments. Today, Pura partners with more than 35 iconic brands and offers over 350 premium fragrances, all delivered through innovative diffusers and an intuitive app. Our mission is rooted in one belief: Life is better when it smells good.

Insights: Bruno Lima, Co-Founder + CEO

Why now and why you?

I saw an opportunity to transform a category that lacked innovation by combining smart technology with premium, clean fragrance. My background in manufacturing and my experience overcoming barriers taught me how to build from the ground up. I believed there was a better, more intentional way to elevate everyday spaces, and that belief still drives me.

What fuels your competitive advantage?

Our competitive advantage comes from the seamless integration of hardware, software, and fine fragrance. We are the only company combining luxury scent, proprietary technology, and a marketplace of globally recognized fragrance partners. Our philosophy is simple: Innovate continuously, scent with purpose, and design for real life.

What’s your proudest accomplishment to date?

Building a category, defining a brand from scratch while becoming profitable, scaling nationally, and assembling one of the most talented teams in fragrance and consumer technology. I am especially proud of how Pura is creating impact through education, Indigenous partnerships, and social initiatives.

What is the one thing you wish someone had told you?

I wish someone had told me that everyone is just doing their best to figure things out. Expertise is valuable, but it doesn’t diminish the power of your own ideas. Don’t underestimate your ability to create something better than what already exists.

"We overlook innovation that unites. Digital tools connect us broadly but can isolate us individually."
By Bruno Lima, Co-Founder + CEO, Pura

What would you tell your past self before starting this journey?

I’d tell myself that there’s something magical about the early days, don’t rush through them. Even when it feels hard, soak it in. Those moments of building from nothing are special, and you only get them once.

What does success look like in the next 3-5 years?

Success means global expansion, deeper partner integrations, and continued leadership in the category we created. It means becoming a household name, expanding scent design as a mainstream concept, and continuing profitable growth while building a culture of innovation, impact, and inclusion.

What's one industry trend that is overhyped, and what's being overlooked?

Overhyped: I’m not sure anything is truly “overhyped” if it’s creating real value. Innovation, no matter the sector, pushes industries forward, and I’ve found that even trends that seem overblown often spark unexpected progress.

Overlooked: We overlook innovation that unites. Digital tools connect us broadly but can isolate us individually. At Pura, we’ve learned that sensory experiences, especially scent, can create shared moments that pull people closer. There’s enormous opportunity in building products that make connection tangible again.

How do you think the industry needs to evolve?

I’d like to see the entire industry move toward truly clean, safe solutions. As a business, I’m grateful we get to lead and pioneer in that space, but as a customer and a parent, I wish every product that enters my home felt safe for my family. That should be the standard, not the exception.

If you could wave a magic wand, what one wish would you make for your business?

My wish would be that Pura never loses its speed. As companies scale, they tend to slow down. I want us to continue to grow without ever losing the momentum, creativity, and drive that got us here.
