Grupo Bensaude Takes Minority Stake in Ignae

Grupo Bensaude has made a minority investment in Portuguese skincare brand Ignae.

WHO: Ignae Skincare is based in Ponta, Azores, Portugal, and was created by Miguel Pombo in 2017. The company’s plant-based skincare products for performance-driven, sustainable, clean skincare are crafted with biotechnology from the region. Their EPC Factor reduced the amount of natural resources needed in formulation, ensuring a sustainable relationship between Ignae and the delicate environment around it.

In addition to its research in the cosmetics area, Ignae is currently developing several research projects, favoring the partnership with the University of the Azores, intending to create a center of excellence in the area of ​​biotechnological use of natural resources from the Azores.

Grupo Bensaude was born on the island of São Miguel, Azores, in 1820, becoming the largest private business entity in the Azores and one of the 100 largest companies with Portuguese capital. Today, Grupo Bensaude brings together more than two dozen companies divided into five business areas: distribution, energy, maritime, logistics, and tourism services.

  • Grupo Bensaude took a minority stake, through the holding company Bensaude Participações, SGPS, SA, in Ignae.
  • Claire Chung joined the company last year as Chief Executive Officer after having spent more than two decades in the luxury sector, most recently launching Net-a-Porter in China as the general manager of Yoox Net-a-Porter Group China in 2015.
