Grupo Boticário Acquires Brazilian Men's Brand Dr. Jones

Grupo Boticário has acquired 100% of Brazilian DTC men's brand Dr. Jones for an undisclosed sum.

WHO: Founded in 2013 by Guilherme Campas and André Popoutchi, Dr. Jones is a DTC men's grooming brand that includes its flagship razors and blades and a head-to-toe product range.

Grupo Boticário owns The Beauty Box chain of 40 brick-and-mortar stores across Brazil and brands O Boticário, Eudora, quem disse, berenice?, Multi B, and Vult. Beyond Brazil, the Boticário Group is present in another 15 countries, including the United States, Colombia, Costa Rica, Portugal, and Japan. It also has two factories in Brazil—São José dos Pinhais (Paraná) and Camaçari (Bahia).

WHY: The deal expands Grupo Boticário further into the men's grooming sector while furthering the digitization of its sales channels. Its portfolio of men's grooming products includes O Boticário's Malbec Club, MEN, and the Eudora's Siàge Men line sector.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS: Fernando Modé, CEO of Grupo Boticário, said, "The acquisition of Dr. Jones consolidates a series of strategic transactions completed over the past few years focusing on accelerating our digitalization program and expanding our brand portfolio. With Dr. Jones, we are strengthening our presence in the male beauty segment, a booming market with strong growth potential."

  • Grupo Boticário acquired 100% of Dr. Jones for an undisclosed sum.
  • Dr. Jones will continue to be sold via the brand's online store, with a medium-term goal to expand the consumer base through Grupo Boticário's other sales channels.
  • Dr. Jones raised several million dollars with VC funds such as Astella, Igah, and IgniteXL. 
  • In 2019, Grupo Boticário acquired e-commerce platform Beleza na Web as part of its strategy to strengthen its online presence.
