Bankrupt Amyris has sold another brand out of its portfolio at auction. Windsong Global bought JVN Hair, the line created in partnership with Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness for $1.25 million.
WHO: Launched in 2021, JVN Hair launched as a collaboration between Amyris and Jonathan Van Ness—hair stylist, Emmy-nominated television personality, New York Times best-selling author, and podcaster. The brand was developed alongside Van Ness as a gender-neutral line suitable for all hair types. The brand is available DTC on Amazon and at Sephora.
Windsong Global, through its Windsong Brands division, was founded in 2006. After five years of leading, co-leading, and acting as sponsor for nine Windsong Brands transactions, CEO Bill Sweedler co-founded Tengram Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused on the consumer sector, which continues to be managed today with two committed funds under management. Windsong Global, through its three investment divisions, is currently deploying capital across its primary sector themes: active lifestyle, beauty and wellness, and fitness and health.
WHY: Amyris filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August. The JVN Hair brand was auctioned off as part of the Amyris bankruptcy proceedings.
