With the intent to promote their values and passion for sustainability, Spanish multinational Eurofragrance introduced its very first captive, L’Âme du Bois, this month at Beautyworld Middle East, with an exclusive collection of fragrances created using the ingredient. Wholeheartedly invested in addressing sustainability issues, Eurofragrance works with four significant axes in mind: safety, biodiversity, community, and resources.

L’Âme du Bois, meaning "the soul of wood” in French, is made from wood waste that has been naturally upcycled into preciously raw material. In order to create a captive that would generate interest and desirability without undergoing deforestation or harming the environment, Eurofragrance used discarded sawdust from trees. The objective of the creative team was to remove, through natural purification processes, undesired and parasitic components from the wood compounds while keeping those of interest to perfumers and following their sustainable philosophy. Felipe San Juan Tejada, R&D scientist at Eurofragrance who led the joint team of perfumers and R&D experts for three years on this project, comments: "We honored nature by creating a new olfactive expression for wood that provides the building blocks for future fragrance creations."

As naturally woody aromas have historically been seen as masculine, Eurofragrance created L’Âme du Bois with the aim to create a unisex perfumery ingredient that caters to both men and women, as well as those seeking a more androgynous scent. Henry van den Heuvel, Global Creative Director and Senior Perfumer at Eurofragrance, states: "L’Âme du Bois is avant-garde in terms of its conception, but, above all, for what it brings to fragrance creation. It redefines woody notes in a manner befitting our time. L’Âme du Bois is inclusive and all-embracing of other accords and olfactive notes. For perfumers, L’Âme du Bois is a true breakthrough.” It fills an interesting gap in the woody notes olfactive family, by providing a high-impact composition that harmonizes with other ingredients in the fragrance formula and highlights their individual characteristics.

Founded in 1990 in Barcelona, Eurofragrance manufactures and markets home, personal, and air care fragrances for brands worldwide. Driven by a passion for perfume and strong family values, Eurofragrance runs plants in Spain, Singapore, and Mexico, as well as working with manufacturing partners in the United States, China, and India.
