UK based skincare brand Líha Beauty closed a £1 million funding round, bringing their total funds raised to £1.2 million.

WHO: Líha Okunniwa and Abi Oyepitan co-founded Líha Beauty in 2017, grounded in creating high-quality, sustainable, multipurpose products that combine natural African roots with a quintessentially British attitude that enables consumers to buy less and buy well. The formulas incorporate the Yoruba (Nigerian) tradition of making beautifying oils, soaps, and lotions from nuts, tree bark, and plants with English aromatherapy. Líha Beauty is sold in Sephora and Space NK in the UK.

WHY: The new investment will be used to build out the team, marketing, and a wholesale strategy.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS: Okunniwa shared with WWD, "We're doing low-hanging fruit, things that people have always asked for, that we know our customers want. Then next year, we're going to step into and own that innovation space, bringing out really new ingredients that people have never seen before, which is the thing that I am most excited about."

DETAILS:

  • Líha Beauty closed a £1 million funding round from an undisclosed private equity investor.
  • The founders participated in the Virgin StartUp CrowdBoost program, an Accelerator designed for founders looking to run a successful equity-based crowdfunding campaign. They raised £200,000 from investors before they got to a crowdfund.
