Manzanita-backed brand Malin + Goetz closed its branded UK stores and entered administration.WHO: Malin + Goetz was established in New York in 2004 by Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz, who set out to uncomplicate skincare, developing a line of genderless products suited for the most sensitive skins while simplifying routines. Rooted in apothecary principles, the brand offers an uncomplicated, two-step, efficacious cleanse and hydrate approach for scalp, face, and hair products that can be shared with everyone you live with (partner, roommate, guest).WHY: Despite significant efforts to improve performance, trading conditions did not recover to the level required to support the overhead costs in the UK or the ongoing operation of the UK store real estate.IN THEIR OWN WORDS: A spokesperson for Malin + Goetz told BeautyMatter, “Following an extensive review of the business and after exhausting all viable alternatives, we have taken the difficult but necessary decision to put our UK business into administration, resulting in the closure of all UK stores that we operate and our head office. We recognise the impact this will have on our colleagues and customers, and the loss of jobs is deeply regrettable, but unavoidable under the circumstances.“Our e-commerce platform will continue to operate as normal for UK consumers, albeit with a short maintenance period to allow for the transition of the technical operations to our US teams, and customers will continue to be able to purchase our products from third-party retailers in the UK, who will be supported by a new partnership with the distributor Discovered Brands.
