The co-founders of Los Angeles-based influencer talent management and brand partnerships agency Shine Talent Group have launched an angel investment fund focused on early-stage women’s health start-ups.

WHO: Jess Hunichen and Emily Ward, the co-founders of influencer talent management agency Shine Talent Group, have launched Shine Ventures. The fund is unlike other angel funds because of its access to proprietary trend data and robust network of content creators who can test and actively be involved in the R&D of the invested brands’ products, providing built-in influencer strategy and digital marketing expertise. Ward and Hunichen are looking to invest in early-stage global companies, with a strong focus on start-ups based in North America.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS: “Given our diverse network of talent and experience working with both emerging and Fortune 500 brands, we are excited to invest in bold early-stage founders and offer them unique insights about the content creation space, along with a built-in marketing microphone that other funds don’t have,” said Ward. “We are looking for ambitious founders that are exceptional storytellers, with companies featuring strong social proof and community engagement. We are excited by products and services that provide alternative solutions to stagnant markets.”

Said Hunichen, “We're thrilled to help build innovative creator economy, lifestyle and wellness brands with potential for global reach and market disruption. We’ve chosen these categories to invest in because of the proprietary trend data that we have ongoing access to through Shine Talent Group, which operates in three key markets—USA, UK and Canada. We’ve been immersed in this world for 9 years and have seen trends come and go, and we understand the markers for the ones with staying power.”

DETAILS:

  • For the rest of 2023, the fund will be focusing on investments in the women’s health space, with a specific emphasis on all things menstruation through menopause.
  • Shine Ventures will be announcing a new category of focus each year.
  • Shine Talent Group acquired Toronto-based influencer management agency Fourth Floor Management (FFM) in December 2020.
  • In December 2022, Ward and Hunichen sold The BodCon, the body confidence–centric virtual conference series they co-founded, to the e-commerce group Trafilea.
