Nourished Life

Founder of Flora & Fauna Julie Mathers and New Zealand-based online wellness retailer HealthPost have acquired Nourished Life brands from BWX.

WHO: Nourished Life began as a blog created in 2011 when there were few truly good natural beauty options. Founder Irene Falcone evolved the blog into an e-commerce destination for a curated assortment of natural beauty and health and wellness products.

The Future Collective is a new partnership between Flora & Fauna founder Julie Mathers, her husband Tom Abraham, New Zealand e-commerce player HealthPost, and Abel Butler and Lilani Rogers, the CEO and head of procurement and operations at HealthPost, respectively.

WHY: Publicly traded BWX went into voluntary administration in April as the company deals with mounting losses and struggling subsidiaries. A series of big acquisitions, some of which were debt-backed, put pressure on the business.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS: CEO of HealthPost Abel Butler said, “We have admired both Flora & Fauna and Nourished Life for a long time and wanted to help these businesses flourish into the future. We recognize there is a lot of work to be done; with our experience in e-commerce, health, wellness and natural beauty, we are confident we are the right custodians of these purpose-driven brands.”

DETAILS:

  • Julie Mathers, founder of Flora & Fauna, teamed up with New Zealand–based online wellness retailer HealthPost to register a new company in New Zealand called The Future Collective and acquired Nourished Life brands from collapsed BWX. The terms were not disclosed.
  • Nourished Life was acquired in 2017 by BWX in a $13.34 million (AUD$20 million) deal.
