OSEA, the 25-year-old pioneer of clean beauty, takes its first outside investment from CAVU Venture Partners.

WHO: OSEA was founded in 1996 by Jenefer Palmer, whose vision was to promote wellness through beauty. OSEA was inspired off the coast of Malibu uniting the elements—Ocean, Sun, Earth, and Atmosphere—to deliver safe, effective beauty and wellness solutions for all. The brand offers a complete line of performance-driven skin and body care products with plant-based bioavailable formulas that showcase the power of seaweed.

WHY: The company plans to use capital to accelerate innovation and increase brand marketing. In the upcoming year, OSEA will accelerate product development and innovation, deepen marketing efforts, and launch its first brand campaign.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS: “We are so excited for CAVU to join the OSEA family. Their commitment to brands that support a healthier world aligns perfectly with OSEA’s values as we continue our mission to promote wellness through clean, sustainable beauty,” stated Melissa Palmer.

“CAVU is thrilled to partner with OSEA as the pioneers in clean beauty. We are impressed with the 25 years of commitment Melissa and Jenefer have poured into building this powered-by-the-sea skincare brand – and we are equally as impressed with the business they’ve created in both DTC and their continued expansion into wholesale. CAVU saw an opportunity to strategically partner with OSEA to deliver on their mission to provide clean, performance-driven, vegan skin and body care products to more people and we are excited to continue to help them realize that vision,” said Jenna Jackson Principal, Growth at CAVU Venture Partners

DETAILS:

  • Jenefer's daughter, CEO Melissa Palmer took the helm of the business six years ago. Under Melissa’s leadership, OSEA has evolved from an exclusive spa brand to having a robust retail presence and a majority direct-to-consumer business, with over 40% of DTC customers consisting of repeat customers.
  • The brand has also expanded into major retailers like Ulta, Nordstrom, Blue Mercury, Neiman Marcus, Credo, and Detox Market.
  • OSEA has also added two beauty industry veterans to its team: Chief Marketing Officer Erin Cotter, most recently GM of Beauty and Wellness at Goop, and Chief Sales Officer Melissa Mao, most recently Vice President of Sales at Coola.
