Oui The People

Oui The People closed its largest fundraising round to date with an oversubscribed $3 million seed round.

WHO: Oui The People, the premium direct-to-consumer shaving and body care brand, was founded by Esteé Lauder alum Karen Young in 2015 with the belief beauty should not come at the expense of our psyche. The statement-making cult classic rose gold safety razor was born out of the founder’s struggle with razor burn and ingrown hairs and was the first product the brand launched.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS: Oui The People founder and CEO Karen Young shared her proof-of-concept blueprint for raising capital with WWD: "We basically raised funds and then went out and proved certain things. And then you go back to the market with what you've proven and try to raise even more."

DETAILS:

  • Oui The People raised $3 million in an oversubscribed seed round. The investment was led by New Age Capital with additional investment from Fearless Fund, Sixty8 Capital, Asia VC, Debut Capital, and angel investors Julia Austin and Geoff Isenman.
  • In 2017, the brand won the WeWork's NYC Creator Awards and received $180,000.
  • The brand leveraged the Creator Award to raise a $750,000 round that included investors like the Comcast Catalyst Fund and raised smaller tranches between 2018 and 2019.
