According to WWD, Paintbox has quietly raised $1.5 million in pre-seed funding and is opening its third Manhattan location.

WHO: Paintbox was founded by former beauty editor Eleanor Langston in 2013, opening its first nail studio on Crosby Street in SoHo. Paintbox is the trendiest salon in the city specializing in nail art and trends. In June the brand launched its first polish collection and recently opened a second location on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

WHY: The investment will be used to continue launching seasonal polishes, potential product expansion beyond nail lacquer, and the opening of three to five more locations in the next five years.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS: “The founding roots of Paintbox were to elevate the nail experience and create a social, buzzy environment where women can come in and entertain—it’s replaced dinner out for a lot of our clients,” Paintbox CEO Jane Hong told WWD.

“Paintbox redefines the nail salon with a curated, minimalist menu of graphic nail art perfect for social sharing, fashion-forward seasonal look books and a female-centric third-space environment,” Langston told makeup.com. “It’s designed to encourage women to step out of their comfort zones.”
