Shu Uemura opened its first global flagship beauty boutique in Omotesando, Toyko, dubbed Shu Tokyo Makeup Box. The exterior design is inspired by the jet-black makeup box used by the brand’s founder Shu Uemura and pays homage to the brand’s first beauty boutique, which was located in Omotesando in 1983. Drawing deeply on the brand’s Japanese heritage, the neon-red torii gate entrance is the gateway to the store’s immersive design.

A giant Japanese-style kokeshi doll known as Shu Shu greats customers featuring the tagline “play, create master your own beauty,” as well as calligraphy art by renowned Japanese calligrapher Mami.
Gift wrapping uses red, black, and white Japanese paper that is inspired by kimono and origami. A special service counter will also offer custom engraving and professional brush cleaning services.
