Key Takeaways:

  • AmeriTerpenes is positioned for long-term growth under Mutares' ownership.
  • The deal advances the Symrise strategy through continued portfolio management.
  • A long-term commercial partnership between Symrise and AmeriTerpenes has been negotiated.

Symrise AG to sell AmeriTerpenes to international private equity investor Mutares SE & Co. KGaA.

WHO: AmeriTerpenes, a leading producer of renewable terpene ingredients, is serving customers across fragrance, flavor, and industrial applications from its US-based manufacturing sites in Jacksonville, Florida, and Colonels Island, Georgia.

The Symrise Group is a German chemicals company and a major producer of cosmetic ingredients, flavors, and fragrances, formed in 2003 with the merger of Haarmann & Reimer and Dragoco. Both companies have roots stretching back to 1874. In 2006, the group went public on the German Stock Exchange.

Mutares is an international private equity investor focused on special situations, including acquiring parts of large corporations (carve-outs) and companies in transitional situations. The aim is to leverage the development potential of usually distressed target companies within an active turnaround process and lead them onto a stable, profitable growth path. For this purpose, the Mutares team, from management to operations, has extensive operational, industry, and turnaround experience.

WHY: With this divestment, Symrise sharpens its portfolio and concentrates management attention on core growth platforms under the ONE Symrise strategy. With the successful operational carve-out completed over the past months, AmeriTerpenes is well positioned to continue its development under new ownership.
