She learned that one in four Americans lives with a chronic skin condition, and that they are two to six times more likely to experience depression and anxiety because of misinformation and alienation. Topical was launched in 2020 as a skincare company transforming how people feel about their skin through effective, science-backed products for chronic skin conditions and mental health advocacy. Olowe created a brand universe that provides holistic treatments, distributed in the US, UK, Canada, Nigeria, and France.IN THEIR OWN WORDS: “When you think of [Topicals], you think of our marketing, storytelling and products, and you think a lot about culture,” founder and Chief Executive Olamide Olowe told Business of Fashion. “These are people who control culture.”DETAILS:Topicals secured fresh funding from the entertainment and sports industries with participation from WNBA star Angel Reese, Nigerian singer Rema, and Asika, who manages popular Nigerian-American singer Davido, among others.The amount of the investment round was not disclosed, but the brand has raised over $22.6 million to date.Rema will also join as a creative partner, advising on marketing the brand to young consumers, particularly men.In November 2022, Topicals closed a $10 million Series A funding round led by Cavu Consumer Partners.In 2020, Topicals raised $2.6 million across three funding rounds.
