Some might have an eye for style, but Yasmin Sewell has an intuition for it. In the 2000s, Sewell brought designers like Rick Owens to the UK and championed visionary designers like Christopher Kane and JW Anderson. She was the Vice President of Style and Creative at Farfetch, Fashion Director at Style.com, CCO at Liberty, Fashion Director at Moda Operandi, and Buying Director at Browns Fashion—in essence, a sculptor of the fashion landscape.Fashion and fragrance do have a longstanding history, but her reasons for pursuing the medium of fragrance in the next chapter of her career came from a different source. The Australian-born creative always had an interest in the spiritual and energetic realms, training in Reiki, integrative quantum medicine, Ayurveda, and flower remedies throughout her life. She founded Vyrao in 2021 with the premise of combining the worlds of energetic healing and master perfumery. The brand name is derived from the shade of green that Sewell had painted her house for healing purposes, but it also comes from the Latin verb “vireo,” which translates to being lively, verdant, and vigorous.“I never thought I'd move into making scents, but I was always tuned into energy, color, probably vibrations. This is definitely my life's work. Vyrao is everything that I've ever had conceptualizing in my little mind as a kid, what I wanted to give out. I just didn't know it would be fragrance,” Sewell remarks on an autumn afternoon in London, clad in a soccer tricot and slicked back hair, her fashion roots undoubtedly shining through.Having pursued energetic work for many years, she was determined to bring that approach to life in a new way.
