Social sauna and ice bath concept Othership has raised $11.3 million and will use the new capital infusion for US expansion, as reported by The Logic.WHO: Toronto-based Othership was founded in 2019 as a miniature spa in Robbie Bent’s garage, and has since evolved into a full communal wellness experience. The concept offers immersive sauna and ice bath social experiences focused on emotional wellness, community connection, and transformation without the need for alcohol or phones. Currently the start-up has two outposts in Toronto and one in NYC.WHY: The capital raise will help fund expansion into the US market and is an intermediate step as the start-up looks to raise a Series B, according to Gurdeep Prewal, co-founder of Rocana Ventures, which participated in the raise.IN THEIR OWN WORDS: “We’re incredibly proud of what we’re building with Othership: creating spaces that support emotional wellness, community connection, and transformation,” co-founder Robbie Bent wrote in a statement to The Logic. “This recent raise will be used to expand our presence in New York—we’ll be opening the doors to our second NYC location in Williamsburg this summer.”DETAILS:According to The Logic, Othership raised $11.3 million through a Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFE). Filings show 57 unique participants with US-based investors contributing $7.1 million. In 2023, Othership raised $8 million in a Series A round led by Vine Ventures with participation from Rocana Ventures, 5D World, Arben Ventures, DML Group, AG Ventures, and Ambush Capital, according to PitchBook.In 2021, a seed round of $586K was completed.
