The launch of vegan pigment New Red 1805 by Givaudan Active Beauty provides an easy way to switch from synthetic to a sustainable alternative. The high-performance powdered red pigment for use in makeup formulations offers a sustainable alternative to synthetic red pigments, creating a solution to the growing consumer demand for healthier and cleaner beauty.
New Red 1805 was crafted for natural makeup designers and especially for lipstick creators looking for a high content of natural-origin ingredients without compromising performance on shade, intensity, and stability.
Yohan Rolland, Global Category Manager, Givaudan, said: “Most of the existing color formulae rely on synthetic pigments. Proudly crafted by Green fractionation, New Red 1805 enables brands to bring a premium vegan, cruelty-free and performant innovation in the most iconic category of colors cosmetics: the red lipstick. With a 100% natural origin, it doesn’t interfere with performance.”
The new pigment was crafted from the Chinese red radish Raphanus sativus L., whose roots are naturally rich in colored metabolites named anthocyanins. New Red 1805 is fully traceable, secured by working with a cooperative of farmers in the Yunnan province, ensuring the quality and sustainability of this raw material.
Designed to offer good performance, it delivers a better chroma C* and better coverage (contrast ratio) in comparison to synthetic benchmark red pigment in products designed for lips. More than just a pigment, New Red 1805 features antioxidant properties, protecting the fragile lip skin from free radicals.
Easy to formulate, it can be used alone in the formula or in association with other pigments to offer a deep color. Its intense natural red is wear-proof stable and offers the perfect shade on all ethnicities.
