The Lunar New Year has arrived, symbolizing longevity, peace, and prosperity. A range of product launches from cosmetics companies around the globe are celebrating the year beginning. After a rise in cyber realities and metaverse activations across the past year, a select few brands have chosen to commemorate the occasion with cross-category beauty NFT products and art toys. Others have focused on traditional cosmetic offerings decorated with beautiful Chinese-inspired prints. Here are the noteworthy Year of the Rabbit–related launches, handpicked by BeautyMatter:

Florasis: Ethereal Charm Set (Year of the Rabbit) ($165) is inspired by “the artistic elegance and calm strength of rabbits who succeed with quiet determination.” The set includes the Floral Essences Balancing Foundation, which maintains oil control, hydration, longevity, and smoothness. Blooming Rouge Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick offers a light matte texture that aims to deliver intense color while being long-lasting. Flawless Jade Shine Liquid Lipstick pampers the lips with a dewy mirror-like appearance. Flawless Jade Breathable Setting Powder is lightweight on the skin thanks to zircon milling tech that aims to make the powder as light as air. Finally, Ginseng Care Lip Balm is a gel lip mask that gently nourishes the lips while moisturizing and soothing without creating any greasiness.

The set is housed in a two-tiered deep navy–blue vanity box with intricately etched golden details decorating it. The top level of the box opens up to a sizable mirror, framed by a metallic golden plate. The offering also includes accessories and stationery: a beauty sponge, a charm bracelet, greetings cards, three red envelopes (symbolizing good luck and protection from evil spirits), and spring festival couplets (expressing sincere blessings and good wishes).

Creed Fragrances x Lala Curio x RobbiART: The Year of The Rabbit Fragrance Discovery Set ($167) honors the holiday through three 10ml vials of the brand's best-selling signature scents: Aventus, Silver Mountain Water, and Millésime Impérial. The coffret was created in collaboration with Lala Curio, a home decor brand that "revives ancient artisanship for modern, timeless interiors," specializing in hand-painted and embroidered chinoiserie. The box features two illustrated rabbits leaning into each other, creating a circle for the Creed logo to sit in, said to symbolize unity among family and friends during the celebration. Also created in collaboration with Lala Curio, The Red Leather Sample Wallet ($173) signifies the red-envelope tradition. The wallet is made from red Saffiano leather, printed with a gold-foiled Creed logo. Inside, stored against a beige suede lining, eight 1.7ml fragrance samples are revealed: Aventus, Silver Mountain Water, Green Irish Tweed, Millésime Impérial, Aventus for Her, Love in White, Wind Flowers, and Royal Princess Oud.

The brand also collaborated with toy brand RobbiART to launch what is said to be "the world's first scented art toy." Bearing the same inspiration as the previously mentioned fragrance collection, the robot-looking toy is a translucent red rabbit with flowers growing inside. It is available in two sizes, both fitted with a chip that allows consumers to scan its left foot and reveal an NFT. The product has a removable backpack with a ceramic label scented with Creed's popular scent, Silver Mountain Water. The toy is set to live in physical stores across the world, as 3D video assets on social media, and in the metaverse alongside other characters popular in China.

Maybelline New York x Lune Zhang: The cosmetics company collaborated with Chinese-French artist Lune Zhang on a series of campaigns featuring the artist’s character Namito, a rabbit who represents “the spirit of striving for freedom and happiness.” Images of Namito wearing a bright-red polka-dotted dress with a matching red bob hairstyle, behind which its large white ears protrude, adorn the bold-red packaging of three limited-edition versions of  Fitme Flush Tint, Hypersharp Extreme Liner, and Superstay Matte Ink.

The collaboration also included an in-person event in Raffles City, Shanghai, that encouraged selfies and live-streaming of the collection launch by visitors on social media. Those participating had the chance to win the complete Maybelline x Lune Zhang collection. The installation also offered a treasure map to guide shoppers through the space, engaging them with activities such as scanning a QR code to receive a customized orange Earl latte created with Algebrait, a coffee chain from Suzhou, China. The brand also published a video documenting Namito’s adventure from New York to Shanghai, where the character is seen as a city explorer.

The Creme Shop x Hello Kitty: The Creme Shop has collaborated with Hello Kitty for its Lunar New Year collection. The complete range is housed in a heart-shaped box that features an illustration of Hello Kitty wearing a rabbit headpiece, with her trademark bow on her left ear. My Lucky Star Printed Essence Sheet Mask (set of three) ($10) bears a classic Hello Kitty illustration on the forehead and a Lunar New Year–themed rabbit Hello Kitty wearing red on each cheek. The masks are a pale pink, decorated in traditional gold Asian patterns and bright blossoming red florals. Gold Fortune! Hydrating Hydrogel Under Eye Patches ($4.50) are available in a similar soft pink, with Lunar New Year Hello Kittys printed onto them. My Melody Macaron Lip Balm - Golden Kiwi Flavoured ($10) comes in a compact classic Hello Kitty–printed circular case. Brush Collection Set Of Five ($18) features ombre pink handles with a Lunar New Year Hello Kitty illustration at the base of each brush. Moon Gaze 9 Color Palette ($16) features shimmery champagne golds, deep blood reds, and oranges. Its packaging is decorated with golden details, with the front of the palette's lid showcasing Hello Kitty and two Lunar New Year rabbit friends congregating around coins to symbolize good fortune. The collection also features a Multi-Use Makeup Blender ($7) featuring a printed Lunar New Year Hello Kitty, plus two similarly decorated Nail Files ($5), and 50 Nail Stickers + Clear Polish Set ($10) featuring different stickers representing Lunar New Year characters.

Estée Lauder: Continuing the theme of cute characters, Estée Lauder launched the Radiance in Bloom collection, consisting of four limited-edition offerings decorated with a fluffy cartoon rabbit and floral displays. Lunar New Year Eye Shadow Palette Radiance In Bloom ($58) features eight shades, including bold gold, pale pink, and a deep red; four are imprinted with a flower pattern. A biscuit-brown rabbit illustration embellishes the mirror inside the palette's lid, holding soft-pink flowers that match its rosy cheeks. The outside of the palette takes the shape of the popular red envelope, further decorated with blossoms. Lunar New Year Lipstick ($38) is available in the shade 669 Thrill Me, a concentrated brick red. The product's packaging is a sleek, shiny, wet-look red case decorated with the same rabbit character and floral illustrations, containing a gold tube illustrated with engravings of spring flowers inside. Year Of The Rabbit Powder Compact ($175) is a refillable powder case designed in the shape of a rabbit, decorated with silver crystal circular gems, with a ruby-red gem-encrusted ear and eye. Lunar New Year Advanced Night Repair Serum ($115) decorates the brand's best-selling nourishing serum with a Lunar New Year twist, with the product packaging taking on a similar glossy red exterior, adorned with cartoon spring flowers and a strong gold applicator, perfectly reflecting the colors of the holiday. Finally, Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Gel-Creme Eye Cream in Limited Edition Jar ($72) is the brand's classic product, presented in striking "lucky red" packaging.
