In the constantly evolving landscape of experiential design, beauty pop-ups have evolved into fully fledged brand statements where product storytelling, community building, and cultural relevance converge in physical space. As digital fatigue deepens and consumers crave experiences worth leaving the house for, brands are leaning into immersive design, multisensory engagement, and value-led programming to create moments that resonate far beyond social media.
A successful pop-up is more than just eye-catching design; it’s a strategic fusion of creativity and interaction. Seamlessly integrating creative elements with strategic business goals sets exceptional concepts apart.
BeautyMatter’s Best Pop Up Award recognizes unique concepts from design through execution for a short-term beauty or wellness pop-up retail concept. Finalists demonstrate how experiential marketing and retail have matured into a powerful extension of brand identity.
Ancient + Brave – The brand leveraged a pop-up concept designed as a strategic US market entry point prioritizing discovery, education, and community over a traditional retail launch. Rather than scaling quickly, the brand took a city-by-city approach, beginning in Los Angeles to build awareness and go deep in highly engaged, wellness-forward markets. The concept centered on creating an immersive, multiweek experience that functioned as both a retail space and a community hub. Anchored by a three-week residency, the pop-up brought the brand to life through daily programming, expert access, and high-touch sampling. Visitors could explore the full product range while also engaging more deeply through events, including panel discussions, community walks, and wellness workshops. Together, these elements transformed the pop-up into a cultural and community moment—one that built both awareness and brand affinity.
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Peel 2-Minute Clinic – To celebrate the two-decade legacy of the revolutionary Alpha Beta Daily Peel, the brand created the 2-Minute Clinic, an immersive pop-up inspired by a modern dermatologist's office. Built around the Peel's signature two-minute treatment time, the experience transformed a simple product claim into an interactive consumer journey that brought to life the science, efficacy, and ease of use behind the product. Instead of traditional sampling, Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare reimagined a dermatologist's office as an interactive beauty destination that blends science, personalization, and entertainment. Guests began their journey with a personalized prescription at check-in that guided them through a series of interactive zones. Sephora co-branded moments were integrated throughout the space, and the pop-up's location adjacent to Sephora created a seamless path from product discovery to in-store purchase.
Elemis New Face of Bodycare Pop-Up – The pop-up aimed to bring the brand’s Pro-Collagen bodycare innovations to life through an immersive, educational, and sensorial brand experience, repositioning bodycare as an essential part of skincare. Blending education with immersion, the pop-up let guests experience the science behind the products while forming a deeper emotional and physical connection with the brand. Visitors were guided through a curated, interactive journey that explored product textures, transformations, and benefits in a tactile and engaging way. At the heart of the experience was the expert-led seven-minute ritual reset, combining breathwork, massage techniques, and mindful moments to demonstrate how bodycare can support everyday wellness.
Ouai BRB Shower – Bond is the most searched hair term, yet the category is notoriously complex. With so much confusion around when and how to use bond products, Ouai leaned into Bond Repair Balm’s standout in-shower application and its ability to deliver results in three minutes for the launch with the BRB shower. Bringing this to life came with real structural challenges: Engineering a structure to hold 200 gallons of constantly flowing water, real tiles, a real drain, and a 1,000-lb. showerhead meant every decision had to balance spectacle with sophistication. The BRB shower delivered. Sephora store sales jumped, online sales nearly doubled, and the moment went viral, picked up organically by consumers and industry leaders alike.
Summer Fridays’ Sun Room – was imagined as an intimate, immersive fragrance experience in New York City to debut Sunlit Vanilla Eau de Parfum—designed to translate scent into a fully sensorial world. Through layered sensory storytelling spanning scent, texture, taste, and visual design, the brand reimagined fragrance discovery as an intimate ritual, fostering emotional connection before public introduction. The experience balanced exclusivity with accessibility, featuring both VIP preview moments and community days, complemented by curated touchpoints, including custom merchandise, vanilla-themed lattes, and highly photogenic environments. Designed to be inherently shareable, the space extended beyond its physical footprint and sparked organic social conversation. The Sun Room redefined how fragrance can be experienced, transforming something traditionally intangible into a multisensory resonant environment.
