Indulging in a spa weekend or taking the time to relax while pampering your skin are great examples of feel-good rituals. These rituals are the foundation of self-care and can have a significant impact on your overall well-being.

At the heart of these rituals are the beauty and personal care products that consumers rely on to treat and protect their skin. Consumers are seeking out products designed to nourish their bodies and minds. They are indulging in skincare products that embrace mindfulness and enhance their moods to treat themselves. According to Mintel, 41% of US Beauty and Personal Care (BPC) shoppers have bought a luxury or prestige personal care product to treat themselves.

Michele Robertson, Director of Beauty Activations at Symrise, states that "Feel-good formulas are more than just a texture sensation. They contain ingredients that interact with the skin to provide moisture, restore balance, and enhance skin health.”

Self-care continues to be a significant driving force in the consumer experience. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of their body's unique needs and are willing to adjust their products and routines to better care for themselves. Across all age groups, individuals are looking to maintain optimal health, prolong life, and feel good.  74% of consumers treat skin health as part of overall health and 60% use their routine to boost their mood (Mintel). Consequently, there is a high demand for products that offer added benefits and cater to health and wellness.

“Consumers want recognizable ingredients that are proven to be effective. They want to know ingredients are incorporated at an effective level, and most importantly, they want to see quick results.”

The beauty experience is far more than skin-deep. Before consumers even apply a product, they invest time in researching its ingredients, building a stronger confidence in their choices. 87 % of US adults do at least some type of BPC ingredient research, while 43% say they do a significant amount of research (Mintel).

Robertson highlights that a successful formula must prioritize efficacy, potency, and timely results. “Consumers want recognizable ingredients that are proven to be effective. They want to know ingredients are incorporated at an effective level, and most importantly, they want to see quick results.”

The beauty industry has undergone a significant shift in focus as it moves towards prioritizing health and self-care. The rise of the feel-good trend is a significant milestone in this regard, promoting self-acceptance and encouraging individuals to feel comfortable in their own skin.
