According to the Paper and Packaging Board, 67% of consumers agree that when selecting which products to buy, they're often influenced by the product's packaging. As Christmas approaches, several businesses are releasing holiday-based product bundles to capture consumers' attention. With the conversation of sustainability still a prevalent one, a range of brands, including Irene Forte and Face Gym, are making efforts to offer products with a more sustainable outlook. From kettlebell-shaped baubles and puffer jacket-inspired lipsticks, here are this year's design-focused stocking fillers, selected by BeautyMatter.
Off-White: "Paperwork" boxes are gift-set offerings containing three categories of Off-White's "Paperwork" products: Solution Fragrances, Imprint Face and Body Solid Pigment Crayons, and Color Matter Nail Polishes, created to take the consumer on a sensory journey inspired by the three senses of touch, light, and smell. The boxes each contain three tiers: a layer for stickers and stencils (common additions to Off-White products), a section for perfumery, and a level for nail polish and makeup crayons. Products inside the gift set are in test tube packaging, with a clear body and a bold, red screw-on cap that lends a scientific laboratory effect. The box's exterior contains signature Off-White font labels wrapped around the edges in bright neon green, which tightly seal the box, and emphasize the scientific, medical feel.
Tatcha: Created with a nostalgic feel in mind, Tatcha’s Tabi Trunk Case ($1,200) is an ode to founder Vicky Tsai’s journey to Kyoto back in 2008, where the initial seeds for the brand’s concept were planted. Crafted in collaboration with Japanese bag maker Masumi Hono, the case is built to last a lifetime, featuring a leather exterior completed with gold-brushed buckles. The case, which is lined with custom linen wool in a floral pattern created by Bando Textiles, contains a collection of Tatcha’s best-selling products. The gold thread used, also known as kinran in Japan, is a highly regarded fabric in the country’s culture, often used in hanging scrolls and kimono obi. With the 400 cases made, the floral pattern shows wisteria and pine―Japanese symbols of good fortune representing the beauty of nature.
FaceGym: For the holidays, FaceGym is offering the Glow Boost Kit ($30), including Skin Changer 2-in-1 Exfoliating Essence-Toner in a mini size and Liftwear, as well as Sleep Cheat Kit ($40) consisting of Cheat Mask and Supreme Restructure Firming Moisturizer. Both kits are presented in an exclusive FaceGym holiday bauble, which resembles kettlebells, a fitting correlation to the brand's name. The product's casing has also been designed to store FaceGym's popular product, Face Ball, once the offerings inside have been used, promoting multipurpose and sustainable purchasing habits which encourage consumers to reuse what they already have.
Vintner's Daughter: The skincare brand released a limited-edition version of its bestselling Active Botanical Serum ($680). Created in partnership with jewelry designer Kim Dunham, the travel-sized product displays the brand's logo in Dunham's signature gold engraving technique. The logo embodies the values of craftsmanship, celebrating Dunham and Vintner's Daughter founder April Gargiulo's focus on the customer―ensuring everyone receives a product of the highest quality. To further accentuate a bespoke feel, each bottle includes a production number engraved in handwriting that symbolizes the product’s uniqueness and echoes a homemade approach. The serum is housed in a sleek, rectangular, beige-wood box, continuing the luxurious feel of the gift set.
Lancôme: In collaboration with collectible Japanese toy brand Bearbrick, Lancôme released a series of teddy bear-themed products retailing for $165. The collection offers a lipstick in two shades, dual essence, and serum, all crafted with graffiti Lancôme logos and drawings of decorated teddys. The bear mascot can be seen carefully imprinted on the side of the matte-textured lipstick product when the cap is removed. In true Bearbrick fashion, within the box containing the products, there is a collectible bear toy with the message “call me happy” printed on its front legs.
Irene Forte: This year, the brand's holiday offering is a Refillable Wooden Christmas Calendar ($620), handmade by Arturo Gaetani and his company Godea located in Puglia, Italy. Inside the case, 12 luxury gifts, including Almond Cleansing Milk, Pistachio Lip Balm, and a full-sized surprise product, sit packaged in deep evergreen drawstring bags and pristine white casing. The product aims to increase sustainability efforts in regard to Christmas gifts, providing customers with an opportunity to refill their calendar each year at a discounted price.
Clean Your Dirty Face (CYDF): The skincare brand has released the limited-edition Mile High Holiday Kit ($129), created to help soothe adult acne and fade scarring. The kit includes Lemon Peel to reduce scars, Lotus Cleanse to exfoliate, Flash Facial to remove dead skin, and Green Monster Face Oil to prevent further acne. As a gift alongside the purchase, the collection comes with Matcha Green Tea Chocolate by CYDF and a cotton tote bag by artist Martina Paukova. In shades of bright blue, mustard yellow, and neon pink, Paukova’s design is an abstract illustration of a woman enjoying a moment of self-care. The image adorns the tote bag, as well as the box packaging, and contrasts the aforementioned colors against each other, allowing the illustration to pop.
