Hydration is the hottest trend in the beauty industry, and unlike some trends (like DIY sunscreen, for example), this one is actively encouraged by dermatologists and estheticians alike. The growing consumer interest in products that promote hydration is a natural extension of the skin barrier repair trend that took off last year. While skincare advice is rarely universal, hydration is the one element that nearly everyone can benefit from. Consumers are increasingly recognizing hydration as a number one factor to help with boosting moisture and glow, plumping and firming the skin, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. According to new research from global market intelligence agency Mintel, hydration is the primary expectation of all skincare users.

Hydrafacial is tapping into this trend with the launch of its Hydralock HA Booster, a proprietary Hydrafacial formulation backed by clinical data. The Hydralock HA Booster delivers the unmatched healthy glow consumers know and love from the brand, but delivers three times more hydration and is clinically proven to help plump the skin(1), which ultimately provides glowing results after just one treatment.

“Today’s consumers want real, rapid results with no down time, are more informed than ever on skin health and ingredients, making clinically proven efficacy crucial,” said BeautyHealth Chief Executive Officer Marla Beck. BeautyHealth is the parent entity of the Hydrafacial brand. “They are savvier than ever when it comes to skin health and ingredients which makes clinically proven efficacy crucial."

“We are introducing the first booster in the Hydrafacial portfolio with clinical claims for dry, dull, dehydrated skin that also addresses signs of aging, offering a solution for the top consumer skin concerns our providers come across in their treatment rooms. The Hydralock HA Booster joins our range of boosters, helping our providers to offer highly customized Hydrafacial treatments that effectively address a variety of skin concerns.”

Consumers who have had a facial before are likely familiar with Hydrafacial. It’s one of the most recognized and requested in-office facial treatments in the world. According to the company’s data, an estimated 5 million Hydrafacial treatments were performed last year across the globe. Hydrafacial’s popularity is largely due to its ability to address many of the top skincare concerns in a single treatment with little to no downtime or side effects.

The Hydrafacial treatment involves the use of a medical-grade hydradermabrasion device and patented vortex fusion technology that deeply cleanses, extracts, and hydrates while infusing ingredients into the skin. This innovative system allows its clinically proven formulations to permeate the skin via its patented magic wand’s delivery system.

Hydrafacial treatments can be personalized to address specific skin concerns. With over 15 boosters to choose from, Hydrafacial’s newest Hydralock HA Booster is the first in the brand’s portfolio dedicated entirely to hydration. According to the company’s data, 59% of Hydrafacial treatments that were performed last year were personalized to address signs of aging and dry skin. This year, with consumers focused on products that offer hydration benefits, Hydrafacial developed the Hydralock HA Booster specifically to meet this rising demand.

“We have always aimed to address a variety of skin concerns through our boosters,” says Beck.

“In an assessment of our portfolio, we saw an opportunity to develop a booster that would specifically target these concerns with hyaluronic acid as the hero ingredient. As one of the most popular ingredients in skin care, we knew combining hyaluronic acid with our patented vortex fusion technology would supercharge hydration and help plump the skin.”

Formulated with a proprietary blend of triple hyaluronic acid complex, vitamin B5, and fruit extracts, Hydrafacial’s new patent-pending Hydralock HA Booster promises to deliver instant and long-lasting moisture and glow while helping to plump and firm the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. In a clinical study, participants experienced a 455% increase in hydration and a 57% reduction in the appearance of wrinkles after just one Hydrafacial treatment with the Hydralock HA Booster(2). Even more impressively, participants enjoyed lasting results, with a 338% increase in hydration and a 63% reduction in the appearance of wrinkles after 24 hours1. Additionally, 94% of participants reported their skin remained more hydrated, moisturized, and brighter 48 hours after the treatment(3).

“The proprietary booster formula contains ingredients chosen specifically to help the outermost layer of the skin to protect and retain moisture,” says Beck. “It not only delivers 24-hour moisture and glow with three times the hydration and a significant reduction in the appearance of wrinkles, but it also helps the skin remain more hydrated, moisturized, and brighter 48 hours after treatment.”

While hydration has always been a top skin concern, Hydrafacial’s newest booster is launching during a time in which many consumers across all age groups and skin types are prioritizing it above all else. From Gen Alpha to Baby Boomers and everyone in between, hydration is the answer to almost every skin concern consumers face, and the lack of it is just as prevalent. Dr. Bertha Baum, a board-certified dermatologist based in Miami, Florida, says she sees many patients struggling with maintaining their skin’s hydration.

“Dehydrated skin can result from environmental conditions like climate and altitude, dietary habits, or an inadequate skincare routine,” says Dr. Baum. “These factors can significantly reduce your skin’s water content, leading to temporary dehydration that many of us experience.”

She often recommends patients receive the Hydrafacial treatment because it delivers immediate results across the board for all skin types with no downtime. “It not only boosts hydration but also helps reduce fine lines and improve skin radiance, making it a cornerstone of effective skincare in my practice,” says Dr. Baum.

The recent surge in interest around skin hydration is driven by a growing awareness of the importance of healthy, radiant skin, which fundamentally relies on proper hydration. The increased focus on hydration reflects a broader shift in beauty standards, moving away from the "overfilled" aesthetic toward a more natural, authentic look. Consumers are increasingly seeking minimally invasive treatments that offer a more natural approach to anti-aging and enhance their features rather than altering them, argues Dr. Baum.

“They want to enhance their appearance by focusing on moisturizing, plumping, and firming the skin, all of which are achieved through effective hydration strategies,” she says. “This shift reflects a broader trend towards achieving the best version of oneself with healthy, glowing skin at the forefront.”

The Hydralock HA Booster by Hydrafacial is available now across the globe, joining a stable of 15+ boosters in the Hydrafacial portfolio, many co-created with leading skincare brands.
