“HOLY SH*T, I’M A M·A·C GIRL!” Chappell Roan first uttered back in middle school, when she got her hands on her very first MAC Lipglass. The appointment of Roan as the MAC’s new Brand Ambassador comes under the direction of MAC’s new Global Creative Director, Nicola Formichetti, and represents a full circle moment for the artist.
This comes just over a year after Roan announced she was unceremoniously turning down any and all brand collaborations being pitched her way. “All the money goes to the world-building,” Roan said in a September 2024 interview with Rolling Stone. “That’s why I am saying no to every fucking brand deal right now, because I’m like ‘Does it fit in this world?’ No, H&M does not fit in this world.”
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter‘s fearless self-expression and advocacy set the stage for a partnership that feels like MAC is getting back to its roots. The Midwest Princess has thrived on curating onstage personas since stepping into the spotlight.
“She is one of the most exciting and powerful artists of this generation; a true creative force who uses beauty as a form of bold, emotional storytelling," said Formichetti. "Chappell represents a generation that values authenticity, queer joy, and fearless self-expression, which aligns perfectly with MAC and our mission of 'All Ages, All Races, All Genders.' Her love for her community, especially her commitment to LGBTQIA+ voices and rights, reflects the heart of what MAC has championed since the beginning.”
Being the only brand thus far to land Roan’s seal of approval is sure to be a boon for the business as Estée Lauder is mid-turnaround.
Aïda Moudachirou-Rebois, MAC Cosmetics SVP and Global General Manager, added, "We partnered with Chappell early on in her rise to fame, supporting her makeup artistry and vision for a few of her career-defining moments; and since our first interaction, we knew there was more ground to cover together. Not only is her story one of perseverance and grit, but she continues to electrify any space she occupies."
She is making her MAC mainstage debut in a theatrical look, showcasing her signature cloud-white complexion, complete with erased eyebrows and a Cool Teddy lip combo. The first campaign imagery for 2026 was shot by legendary photographers Inez & Vinoodh and is a modern take on androgyny that feels powerful, graphic, and unmistakably her.
Makeup artist Andrew Dahling said, "I drew from film noir monochrome and 1930s military references and then layered in her signature high glamour. The stark white base and erased brows created a clean canvas for sculpted dimension, while the eyes were built with cool greys and deep blacks to evoke a moody, cinematic intensity. We finished with a custom chunky frosted-tip glitter lash that adds a playful, hyperfeminine contrast to the structure of the look, capturing the theatrical spirit Chappell brings to every transformation."
While Formichetti remained tight-lipped about the long-term partnership, “exclusive surprises and bold creative moments” will be the result of Roan’s use of the brand as a “creative toolbox” to play and experiment with as she sees fit.
"Partnering with MAC feels full circle. This brand has always made space for people like me; since day one they've embraced art, queerness, drag, and self-expression," said Chappell.
