The refill revolution continues. After Unilever and Beiersdorf expanded their refill offerings, the Henkel-owned personal care brand Authentic Beauty Concept is launching the second generation of its circular Refill Bar, the first in-salon refill model featuring 85% bio-based PE labels and 92% recycled 5-liter plastic bottles. The 250ml bottle consumers purchase can be reused a minimum of five times, resulting in a 83% reduction in use of plastic.

The new edition incorporates a more compact and user-friendly design, after the company gathered “extensive feedback” from hairdressers working with the station.  “The Refill Station is the easiest way to reduce plastic waste, while keeping a professional, quality product,” comments Matt Dubet, founder and Creative Director at Lisbaeta Salon, Lisbon.

Whether in a salon or a drugstore, the increasing prevalence of refill stations presents a helpful tool in lessening environmental impact. Consumer education and ensuring product hygiene and safety present the next chapter, but the interest is certainly there. “Now more than ever we must make people aware of the importance of caring for the environment. We must change the way salons work, and the way clients consume single-use products,” adds Elías Pedrosa, an Authentic Beauty Concept advocate. “Many of our clients opt for the Refill Bar because it’s new and interesting, they are curious and ask a lot of questions about it! As a salon, it helps us to offer something different and special. It adds value.”
