Key Takeaways:

  • Sephora expands K-beauty through strategic Olive Young partnership.
  • Olive Young brings Korean beauty curation to global retail.
  • K-beauty's retail expertise is becoming a global competitive advantage.

Sephora and South Korea’s largest beauty retailer, Olive Young, are deepening their relationship as K-beauty continues to reshape the global prestige market. The announcement comes just months after Olive Young opened its first freestanding US store in Pasadena, California, marking another major step in the retailer’s international expansion. Beginning August 20, Sephora will introduce an Olive Young K-Beauty edit across more than 500 US stores and online, marking the first market launch under the retailers’ global partnership announced earlier this year.

The curated assortment features 19 Korean beauty brands selected by Olive Young based on product performance, consumer demand, and trend leadership in South Korea. The launch comes as K-beauty continues to gain momentum in the US, where Korean brands recorded 23% year-over-year growth in prestige retail during the first quarter of 2026 despite accounting for just 3% of the market, highlighting both the category’s rapid growth and significant room for expansion.

The launch represents more than a retail expansion. It signals a new phase in K-beauty’s globalization, with Sephora effectively leveraging Olive Young as Korea’s leading beauty discovery engine. Rather than independently identifying emerging brands, Sephora is tapping into Olive Young’s merchandising expertise, trend insights, and position at the center of Korea’s beauty ecosystem to bring proven local favorites to international consumers. Founded in 1999, Olive Young operates more than 1,380 stores across South Korea and has become one of the country’s most influential beauty platforms, helping launch and scale many of today’s leading K-beauty brands before they gain global recognition.

The initial assortment includes brands such as Abib, Banlia Co, Bioheal Boh, Cell Fusion C, make p:rem, ma:nyo, Rejuran Cosmetics, Torriden, and Wellage, alongside several new names that have built strong followings through Olive Young’s retail network.

The US rollout will launch with a dedicated Olive Young K-beauty space inside Sephora’s Times Square flagship in New York, while curated displays will also appear in participating stores nationwide and online. For Sephora, the partnership builds on more than a decade of investment in Korean beauty across skincare, haircare, and makeup. As consumer demand continues to shift towards Korean ingredients, textures, and routines, the retailer is positioning itself at the center of K-beauty innovation.

"For more than 26 years, Olive Young has helped define Korean beauty by curating the products and brands shaping today's trends and connecting consumers from Korea and around the world with the very best of K-beauty," said Do-young Kim, Executive Vice President of US Merchandising at CJ Olive Young, in a press release. "By combining Olive Young's merchandising expertise and trend-driven curation with Sephora's exceptional global retail platform and client experience, this partnership will make the very best of Korean beauty more accessible than ever before."

The collaboration also reflects Olive Young’s growing international ambitions. Founded in 1999, the retailer operates more than 1,380 stores across South Korea and has become one of the country’s most influential beauty merchandising platforms, helping launch and scale many of today’s leading K-beauty brands before they gain international recognition.

"Access to Korean Beauty has redefined the global beauty landscape, and Sephora continues to be at the forefront of bringing the very best of the category to our clients," said Carolyn Bojanowski, Executive Vice President of Merchandising at Sephora, in a press release. "Partnering with Korea's No. 1 beauty and health retailer, Olive Young, expands US consumers' access to an unparalleled assortment of Korean beauty, giving beauty lovers the opportunity to explore and try some of the most coveted brands and formulations from Korea."

The US launch is only the beginning of the partnership’s global rollout. Following its August debut, the Olive Young K-beauty edit will expand to Hong Kong SAR, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand later this year, before reaching the UK, the Middle East, and Australia in 2027. The collaboration is particularly notable given the companies’ competitive history in South Korea. Sephora exited the Korean market in 2024 after struggling to gain traction against Olive Young, which dominates the country’s health and beauty retail sector with more than 1,300 stores. Just two years later, Sephora is partnering with its former rival, effectively leveraging Olive Young’s merchandising expertise and market leadership to accelerate its global K-beauty strategy.

For the wider beauty industry, the partnership highlights how K-beauty’s influence continues to evolve. Rather than exporting individual hero products or viral trends, Korean retail expertise itself is becoming a valuable asset. As retailers compete to identify the next generation of high-growth brands, merchandising curation may prove just as important as product innovation in shaping the future of global beauty discovery.
