Earlier this week, powerful Santa Ana winds fueled a growing number of wildfires that spread rapidly across Los Angeles. The Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and Altadena were hit the hardest, with numerous homes, businesses, and landmarks destroyed. Thousands of homes have burned to the ground, and at least 130,000 residents are displaced and under evacuation orders. Experts warn locals that the threat is ongoing, with Los Angeles County remaining under a red flag warning through Friday night.
While it's too soon to calculate the toll of the devastating wildfires, community organizations and disaster relief agencies have already begun mobilizing to provide shelter, food, and aid to those affected. The beauty community has always been swift to jump into action and help those in our community whose lives have been upended by sudden tragedy.
If you want to help those affected by the LA wildfires, here's a list of individuals and organizations that could use your support:
- Marta Freedman, co-founder of Dieux and founder of Air Milkshake, a creative agency and gifting suite, lost her Malibu home to the fires. Julie Schott, a serial beauty entrepreneur and Freedman's friend, organized a GoFundMe to help them rebuild their lives. Donate to the GoFundMe here.
- Sacha Strebe, Editorial Director at EyeSwoon, editorial consultant, and founder of @skinlexicon, lost her home in the Eaton fire. Donate to her GoFundMe here.
- Nick Lennon, a Los Angeles-based makeup artist, and his husband Gregg Lennon, a hairstylist, lost their home in the Eaton wildfire. In addition to their home and personal belongings, tens of thousands of dollars of salon equipment, hair tools, human hair wigs, extensions, hair and skin products, makeup kits, and personal beauty tools were also lost to the fire. Donate to their GoFundMe here.
- Jen Atkin, founder of haircare brands OUAI and Mane, lost her home in the fires. She asks people to donate to the LA Fire Department Foundation and the LA Dream Center.
- Donate to Baby2Baby, a nonprofit organization providing critical items, including diapers, food, formula, and hygiene products for children and families who have lost everything.
- Donate to World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit organization supporting first responders and families impacted by wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
- Donate to the California Community Foundation Wildlife Recovery Fund, which provides immediate relief to those who lost their homes due to a wildfire. This can include access to shelter, food, cash, and other basic needs, providing both mid- and long-term recovery efforts to those affected by California wildfires.
- Donate to the California Fire Foundation Wildfire & Disaster Relief Fund, which provides critical support to surviving families of fallen firefighters, firefighters, and the communities they serve
- Donate to the American Red Cross, whose disaster teams are working to provide safe shelter, food, emotional support, and other relief services. In addition, the organization is mobilizing hundreds more disaster workers to support the wildfire victims and moving truckloads of supplies like cots, blankets, and water to be ready to support thousands of people in emergency shelters if needed.
The beauty community has wasted no time coming together to help in times of tragedy. Here's a list of brands donating items and raising money to help those who lost everything in the LA wildfire:
- BK Beauty: From January 9-11, 100% of net proceeds from sales on bkbeauty.com will go directly to the California Community Foundation to support those affected by the devastating fires.
- Tower 28: Founder Amy Liu, whose house was affected by the fires, is organizing a personal care/beauty gifting suite to raise money for fire victims. The suite will feature brands such as Osea, Everlane, and American Vintage.
- Dolce Glow: CEO and founder Isabel Alysa is collecting donations at the brand’s office to support the first responders who have been working tirelessly day and night in LA County. If you are local and able to donate, check the donation list here and drop off items at 1621 First Street, Unit 5, San Fernando, CA 91340.

- SET Active: Founder Lindsey Carter turned SET's office into a donation drive collection center. The brand is currently accepting unused, nonperishable donations from companies to give to families affected and displaced by the wildfire. As the fires grew, Carter opened her DMs to brands and the general public, inviting them to stop by SET's office to bring donations such as full-sized products from other brands, necessities, new and unworn clothing, nonperishables, and more to pass out to families.
- Prose: The custom hair and skincare brand made an immediate donation to organizations actively involved in wildfire relief, including the American Red Cross, Westwood, local fire department foundations, and animal rescue groups caring for displaced pets. In collaboration with The Midnight Mission (which Prose has partnered with for the past two years), Prose is collecting essential items such as blankets, bottled water, and hygiene products and assembling hygiene kits to ensure evacuees have access to basic necessities, which will be distributed through local partners. Prose is encouraging its community to drop off items at Midnight Mission (601 South San Pedro Street Los Angeles, CA 90014) and provided a list of most needed items by evacuees. Prose is also committing to partnering with local organizations to provide long-term, ongoing resources as communities begin the challenging process of rebuilding, such as the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, an organization that plays a vital role in helping those affected rebuild their lives and restore their communities.
