Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are two of the most powerful and influential artists in today’s cultural landscape, and both have had a significant impact on the economy through their most recent tours and concert film releases. According to some estimates, the artists generated more than $10 billion in economic growth for the US last year. Beyoncé fans spent an average of $1,800 on tickets, flights, hotels, and food, while “Swifties” (the nickname given to members of Swift's fanbase) spent an average of $1,500, as reported by Pollstar and Bloomberg. The boost of economic activity had a profound ripple effect on local economies, including beauty businesses.According to recent surveys conducted by Vagaro, a salon and spa software company, Taylor Swift’s and Beyoncé’s concert tours led to a significant increase in client bookings, services, and revenue for beauty business owners. Thirty-three percent of beauty business owners who participated in the initial in-house survey said they observed a significant increase in bookings during the touring periods, with an overwhelming 83% attributing this surge directly to the influence of the concerts.“The fact that 83% of business owners attributed a surge in bookings directly to the influence of the concerts surprised us the most,” Vagaro Chief Marketing Officer Charity Hudnall tells BeautyMatter. “It truly speaks to the cultural phenomenon these events have had on local economies overall, across a wide array of industries. Beauty is clearly no exception.
