In the present day, omnichannel retail has resulted in consumers being consistently exposed to new products, brands, and ideas, making the customer journey more complex. In order for brands to understand their consumers' needs and shopping habits, the likes of personalized quizzes and other artificial intelligence engines are on the rise. Digital brand experience company Revieve has been known to take this information and provide brands with AI engines that ensure the customer gets the most out of their product offerings. After teaming up with science-led haircare brand Living Proof, more recently, Revieve has partnered with start-up skincare brand Duolab, developed by the L’Occitane Group, to deliver customizable skincare through artificial intelligence.
Duolab, initially launched in early 2020, focuses on technology that creates personalized single-dose moisturizers and serums at home with “mix and match” capsule combinations, freshly emulsified and activated just before application. The partnership sees first-time customers undergo a skin diagnosis on Duolab’s newly upgraded website, powered by Revieve. After answering questions about their specific skin concerns, consumers are asked to input their geographical location and upload a selfie. Users are provided with an in-depth analysis of their skin, through Revieve’s proprietary computer vision technology, which measures more than 120 skin metrics to give the most accurate result.
"Personalized and customized skincare is no longer just an option for customers; it's the norm," says Sampo Parkkinen, CEO of Revieve. "The future will be about coaching customers about their skin and helping them achieve the best skin of their life and the confidence that comes with it. We are honored to partner with Duolab to create inclusive and intimate customer experiences and guide users towards achieving their skincare goals by helping them become experts on their skin.”
After the condition of the consumer's skin has been fully analyzed, the tool recommends a tailored prescription of Duolab capsule combinations that provide the best results for each specific concern. Duolab’s beauty system includes a lab device able to blend 20 different face care formulations through an assortment of mix-and-match Duo Capsules, creating flexible routines that can adapt to the skin's changing needs daily with personalized serums and moisturizers. All products are rich in natural active ingredients, preservative free, and freshly blended on demand.
“Adapting and tailoring a flexible skincare routine for each individual person is what Duolab is all about,” said Alain Harfouche, Managing Director of Duolab. “So of course the most important first step is to identify the customer’s personal needs: their skin type, goals, lifestyle and preferences. By working with Revieve we are able to combine consumers’ own observations with smart AI technology that analyzes multiple aspects of their skin and recommends a tailored ‘prescription’ to deliver on their needs."
Later on in the year, Duolab intends to add a “Skin Coach” module that will give customers the ability to track their skincare journey progress and tweak their routines accordingly.
